Safety ‘In the Spotlight’: “We work safely, or we don’t work at all”

Autumn has arrived. The days are getting shorter, the mornings darker, and visibility on site is sometimes limited. Especially during this time of year, safety is more important than ever. At De Gilde Groep, safety isn’t a separate topic or an annual campaign, it’s an essential part of who we are and how we work. That’s why, during our recent Safety Week, we put it even more in the spotlight!

Our focus on safety starts long before a project begins. Every professional working with us — whether you’re an electrician, concrete carpenter, or prefab specialist — receives a detailed safety briefing before starting on site. This includes a general introduction, where we explain our safety policy and expectations, and a project-specific instruction, covering the particular risks and key safety points for that project. This way, everyone knows exactly what’s expected and how to work safely and responsibly in practice.

We also make sure that every team member has the right personal protective equipment (PPE). At the start of each project, a colleague from De Gilde Groep is on site to personally welcome you, guide you through the process, and check that your PPE is in good condition and that the safety instructions are clear. This personal approach builds trust and prevents misunderstandings, because safety begins with clarity and care.

We believe that safety shouldn’t just be something we talk about; it’s something we should live every day. That’s why we regularly carry out structured safety rounds together with our clients and teams on site. These rounds are not just about checking compliance, they’re about creating awareness and open conversations. By sharing experiences and ideas, we keep learning from each other and continuously improving.

Our commitment to safety hasn’t gone unnoticed. We’re proud to hold the Safety Culture Ladder level 3 – Original certification, proof that safety is deeply rooted in our organization. But for us, certification isn’t the goal, it’s a confirmation that we’re moving in the right direction.

Twice a year, we present the Safety Award, a recognition for the colleague who sets the best example in safe working practices. Because good examples inspire others, and appreciation strengthens involvement.

Safety, however, doesn’t stop at the project gate. Especially now that the days are shorter, we also look after your well-being outside working hours. Comfortable, high-quality housing is an important part of our safety policy. A good night’s sleep, a pleasant living environment, and time to relax help ensure that you return to work the next day rested, alert, and focused.

At De Gilde Groep, we see safety as a broad and shared responsibility, from training and equipment to housing and culture. In the end, it all comes down to one goal: that everyone returns home safely, every single day. Especially now, during these darker months, we’re fully committed to that, together with all of you.

Because we work safely, or we don’t work at all.
